The disorienting and distracting effects of a headache can keep you from being able to complete your daily tasks and ruin any desire to participate in important life events. Among those who work extensively with technology, especially for work, daily eye strain can easily contribute to headaches, such as tension or migraines. Lack of proper rest places a role because our eyes and the muscles associated with them need proper rest. Without it, fatigue sets in and can cause much pain and discomfort over time. This post will show you a few ways to know that your headache is likely due to digital eye strain.

Elevated Sensitivity to Light

When you go outside, do you notice if your eyes must try very hard to adjust to outdoor lighting? It shouldn’t be painful when you step into the light. Yet, this usually occurs when your eyes have had a speedy exposure to low lighting where they had to get used to squeezing as much light out of the environment as possible. When your eyes become accustomed to such, they begin to have properly adjusted to a different setting. Exposure to varied lighting helps rest the various eye muscles contributing to minute adjustments.

Frequent Eye Irritation

Another powerful indication of eye strain is that they are irritated a lot of the time. If your eyes are irritated, which means that either something in the environment is hurting them or that your eyes arenít getting the proper rest they need – or thus, you aren’t getting the proper rest you need. As time passes, eyes that go untreated can eventually develop more dramatic problems that can disrupt your daily life.

Blurred or Double Vision

After sustained periods of neglect, your eyes might begin to fail for small periods, resulting in blurriness or double vision. This is often the simple result of muscle groups in the eyes reaching their point of exhaustion. This is similar to how your vision can become blurry when you are tired, and your body no longer functions well enough to hold your eyes in place and allow you to see things properly.

Sore Neck & Shoulders

Have you ever noticed when you sit idly for too long, your neck becomes sore? Well, you might be surprised to find that this is another eye strain symptom. This can be for a few reasons, so already get your checked out by your family doctor. When straining to see things, some people have the habit of tensing certain muscle groups, and given that vision is centered in the head, people tense the muscles in those areas without realizing it. After sustained periods of tensing, which can often be two or more hours of binge-watching TV, YouTube, or another streaming service, the muscles become very tired and sore.
